MZ ARTWORK
A collection of paintings and pottery by Marcela Zacharik

About me

Originally from Europe I have been calling British Columbia my home since 1998. Besides having two jobs, a husband and two beautiful dogs I try to make time for myself and fill it with making art.

I use my instincts to guide me through the creative process. I started drawing and painting in my early teenage years, but soon got busy with other aspects of my life. Subconsciously I always knew there would be a point in time when my desire to create art would win over other hobbies.

I got back into painting again in about 2005, at that time working with watercolours, but there just wasn't enough time so painting was put on a back burner for a number of years. In 2012 I created my first paintings in acrylics, painted on and off for a few years, and then regularly since 2016. I am inspired by nature: mountains, skies, sunsets, seasons, light, flowers, birds, animals...

A few years ago I discovered the technique of poured acrylics, and then at the end of 2018 Alcohol inks, which now are a big part of my work. Although there are a number of colours that dominate my palette, I also enjoy experimenting with new, exciting combinations.

One more area of my hands-on work is wheel throwing (both porcelain and other clay bodies). Turning wheel-thrown bowls into one-of-a-kind pieces is exciting and brings me a lot of joy in the process.
